Who are the ThunderTones?

The ThunderTones started in 2001, when 13 guys got together to bring barbershop music back to Huntington. Since then, we have put on hundreds of performances across the area, bringing the barbershop style of music to audiences all across the tri-state area.

The ThunderTones is the chorus name of the Huntington Tri-State Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. For nearly 17 years, the ThunderTones was an all men’s chorus. But in the fall of 2018, we decided to bring females into the mix. The result is a fuller and balanced sound, a larger performing chorus and a lot more fun! Currently, we call ourselves a mixed gender chorus that sings four-part, a cappella music in the barbershop style. Our motto is Everyone in Harmony. This means we accept as members people of all ages, all genders, all colors – anyone who just enjoys singing.

What is Barbershop Music?

“Barbershop vocal harmony, as codified during the barbershop revival era (1930s–present), is a style of a cappella close harmony, or unaccompanied vocal music, characterized by consonant four-part chords for every melody note in a predominantly homophonic texture.”
